The Oakland Raiders began as a charter member of the newly formed American Football League in 1960. Team colors are silver and black and Raider Nation is the official mascot. The franchise moved to LA in 1982 only to move back to Oakland in 1994. The Raiders continue to be one of the most popular NFL franchises even though losses have multiplied in recent years. The Oakland Raiders are now owned by Mark Davis, the son of Al Davis, who was first hired as head coach in 1963 and later became majority owner of the franchise in 1972.

The Oakland Coliseum is the home of the Raiders and it opened in 1966. The Coliseum currently seats 53,200 spectators. The Oakland Raiders are a member of the American Football Conference of the National Football League and compete in the AFC West Division. The Raiders won the AFL Championship in 1967 and played in Super Bowl II. After the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Raiders became one of the most successful NFL teams of all time. The Raiders have won four AFC Championships and three Super Bowls – XI, XV and XVIII.
