The history of the Kansas City Chiefs dates back to 1960 when the team became a charter member of the newly formed American Football League. The franchise began as the Dallas Texans and after three seasons moved to Kansas City, where they became one of the most successful AFL teams. The 1966 Kansas City Chiefs won the AFL Championship and played the Green Bay Packers in the first Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs were founded by Lamar Hunt and are still owned by the Hunt family.

Arrowhead Stadium is the home of the Kansas City Chiefs and it opened in 1972. Arrowhead Stadium currently seats 76,416 spectators. The Kansas City Chiefs are a member of the American Football Conference of the National Football League and compete in the AFC West Division. The Chiefs won three AFL Championships in 1962, 1966 and 1969 and won Super Bowl IV before the merger of the AFL and NFL in 1970.
