Indianapolis Colts Football Online
The history of the Indianapolis Colts dates back to 1953. The Colts were founded by Carroll Rosenbloom as the Baltimore Colts. The Colts found success early in Baltimore – the team was most famous for winning the 1958 NFL Championship in the “The Greatest Game Ever Played” – and helped solidify the popularity of professional football in the US.
The Colts were later traded in 1972 to Robert Irsay for the Los Angeles Rams in the only instance of two NFL owners trading franchises. In 1984, Bob Irsay relocated the Colts to Indianapolis, thus the team was renamed the Indianapolis Colts and is still owned by the Irsay family.
Lucas Oil Stadium is the home of the Indianapolis Colts and it opened in 2008. Lucas Oil Stadium currently seats 62,421 fans. The Indianapolis Colts are a member of the American Football Conference of the National Football League and compete in the AFC South Division.
The Colts won three NFL Championships before the AFL-NFL merger, three AFC Championships and two Super Bowls – V and XLI.
