The history of the Cleveland Browns dates to 1946 when the team joined the All American Football League. The Browns were founded by Mickey McBride and nicknamed the Brown Bombers. The Browns were invited to join the NFL in 1950 and won the NFL Championship during the team’s inaugural year in the league. The name was later shortened to the Browns – a testament to the success of head coach Paul Brown. Brown coached during the glory years of the franchise, from 1946 to 1962. Jimmy Haslam purchased the Cleveland Browns from Randy Lerner on October 16, 2012 for just over $1 billion.

FirstEnergy Stadium is the home of the Cleveland Browns and it opened in 1999. FirstEnergy Stadium currently seats 73,200. The Cleveland Browns are a member of the American Football Conference of the National Football League and compete in the AFC North Division. The Browns won four AAFC Championships before the team joined the NFL. Since joining the NFL, the Browns have won four NFL Championships, 1950, 1954, 1955 and 1964, all before the AFL-NFL merger.
